Yvonne Coppard - New books

I have been very busy with non-fiction writing, book reviews and other short projects this year, so there are no new books to tell you about. But watch out for a brand new, updated edition of the best-selling

Bully

If your life was being made a misery by a school bully, and you found out something that gave you a chance to turn the tables and get him back, would you do it? Kerry does – but she soon finds it’s not going to be that simple.

I can’t give you an exact date for publication yet – it’s nearly finished, but not quite. If you want to be put on the ‘advance notice’ e mail list, so that you are among the very first to know when it’s available, just drop me an e mail and I’ll let you know as soon as I do. Meanwhile, here’s a bit from the opening page…..

It would happen again today, Kerry knew it. They would be waiting for her at the school gate, although of course they wouldn’t touch her there. Usually it was just inside the park that they pounced. They would walk beside her, copying her steps exactly: the slow, dragging foot on her crippled leg, and the quick, heavy thump of her good one.

‘Hopalong, Hopalong!’ they would chant. Then one of them, usually Billy Taggart, who was the biggest of the Year Ten boys, would take her bag, or try to trip her up. And she couldn’t run away, and she couldn’t chase them, and she couldn’t fight, because of her leg, which would not do what she wanted it to.

‘Kerry Cripple’, they called her, or ‘Kerry Spazzo’. The kids in her class didn’t call her names but some of them pitied her, which was almost worse. No-one knew what she had once been, before the accident and the move to this new school, and she wouldn’t tell them.
